What is DEXA

It is also known as BMD scan, bone mineral density scan, dual energy x-ray absorptiometric scan, dual x-ray absorptiometry, and DXA. DEXA is used to measure bone density. Main purpose of DEXA is to measure weekness of your bones or risk of fracture. Basically it measure how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals are packed into a segment of bone. DEXA uses osteoporosis medical tool to assess the condition of your bones. There are two main areas where DEXA focus are Hips and Spine. DEXA process is easy, it takes hardly 10-20 minutes and it's painless. A bone density test may also be necessary if you have any of the following: -X-ray is showing a break or bone loss in your spine. -Severe Back Pain -Height loss of ½ inch or more within one year
