What is 2019-nCoV ?
A family of viruses that can cause illnesses such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome(MERS), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome(SARS) and common cold are termed as coronaviruses. A new virus which has been named 2019-nCoV (2019 novel coronavirus) is the cause of disease outbreak in China. The disease caused by this virus is known as COVID – 19 where ‘CO’ stands
for Corona, ‘VI’ stands for Virus and ‘D’ for disease.
Where did 2019-nCoV come from ?
Novel Corona virus is supposed to have been spread from an infected animal to humans. This might have originated from seafood market where wildlife was being sold illegally. Bats or snakes are the possible sources as per scientists.
What are the Symptoms ?
Symptoms of infection in a person after getting infected may take up to 2-14 days to appear.

Symptoms of new corona virus can be severe and may lead to death. Majority of the people who have got infected with this virus are people with some existing medical conditions or senior citizens.
How does Corona virus transmits ?
The identified ways of transmission of this virus are following:
Having close contact with person who is already infected
If an infected person sneezes or coughs, respiratory droplets released may spread this virus.
How is Corona Virus Diagnosed ?
In India, following technique is used to diagnose corona virus:
RT-PCR Technique : Firstly, doctor takes sample of nasopharyngeal swabs (secretion from nose and upper throat) of the suspected patient. Then using RT-PCR laboratory technique, reverse transcription of RNA is combined into DNA that leads to molecular diagnosis of coronavirus.

Currently no vaccination is available for Corona Virus. So, prevention is the only option.
Following are the ways through which corona virus can be prevented from spreading :
Hands should be washed often with soap of an alcohol based sanitizer.
If someone is sick, he should avoid going to public places.
Close contact with already infected person should be avoided.
While sneezing or coughing, mouth and nose should be properly covered.
Eyes, nose and mouth shouldn’t be touched with unwashed hands.
